Where 185 CFM fits
The 185 CFM class is popular because it is portable while supplying enough air for many common civil and construction tools. A typical handheld breaker may use roughly 45–90 CFM, so one or sometimes two tools can fit within this class depending on their actual specifications and whether they run together.
Do not assume 185 CFM automatically suits abrasive blasting. Nozzle airflow can consume most or all of the machine capacity, particularly as nozzle diameter and pressure increase.
How to specify the job
Start with the equipment or process that will consume the air. Record the number of tools that may run at the same time, each tool's required airflow, and the highest operating pressure. For industrial temporary-air jobs, also note required air quality, duty cycle, connection size and whether the process can tolerate interruption.
